Signs It’s Time for a New Vehicle

August 8th, 2016 Salvage Hunter Auto Parts

Owning a vehicle is essential for most people in today’s world. Unfortunately, vehicles wear out over time and eventually need to be replaced, but it can be hard to know when that time has arrived. Here are five signs it’s time for a new vehicle.

Breakdowns

Frequent breakdowns on an older or high-mileage vehicle may be a sign that it is time to replace it. Modern cars tend to be fairly reliable, so if you are being left without transportation more than a few times each year it is probably time for a new car.

Repair costs

Vehicle repairs can be expensive, even if you do some of the work yourself. When the necessary or anticipated repairs will cost more than the vehicle is worth it is probably time to buy a new car. It is seldom worth spending $3,000 on a car that is only valued at $1,000.

Failing inspections

Many states require all vehicles to pass safety or emissions inspections. While these inspections can be valuable for identifying potential problems, they can also be stressful and expensive events for vehicle owners. It is not uncommon for an older vehicle to need some work to pass an inspection, but in some cases it is better to replace the vehicle than to spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars in an attempt to pass the inspection.

Rust

Rust is a real problem on vehicles that have been driven in areas that use road salt during the winter. These vehicles may have unsightly surface rust that lowers the value, but they may also have serious rust underneath that affects the safety of the vehicle.  A car that is heavily rusted probably needs to be replaced.

Fuel efficiency

Modern automobiles are more fuel efficient than older vehicles. As fuel prices rise, it may be worth replacing an older vehicle with a newer, more efficient vehicle. Depending on how much you drive each year, a more efficient car could save hundreds of dollars each year or more.
